Methods for carbon dioxide removalOcean fertilisation

About the method
Ocean fertilisation involves the targeted outflow of nutrients such as iron or phosphorus into the oceans with a view to promoting the growth of phytoplankton. These microscopic algae absorb CO₂ from the atmosphere during photosynthesis. Some of the sequestered carbon is transported to the deep sea by natural processes and stored there for the long term.
